a sinless son
is a foreign thought
but being a mother
isn't.
thinking on Jesus' life
from birth,
toddlerhood
to manhood--
i ponder his humanity.
and i think of life with a beloved son.

hearing the little voice
recalling scripture
telling stories
dripping with
imagination.

listening to
his voice in the other room
songs made up
heart of joy
overflowing
through melody.

walking together
thoughts pouring
from his little heart
declaring the birds sing
hymns and praises to God.

contagious energy
desire to play
childhood created to be fun.

awakening,
excitement to see
his parents,
experiencing the day.

watching
as he helps
daddy outside
raking
shoveling
woodworking
learning about
the sweat of his brow,
value in hard work
the pride in earning a wage.
looking intently
at his father
an example...
admiration.

heart filling
with deep affection
sharing merriment
laughing at life
abiding in joy.

being encouraged
in saving
mommy and daddy
from bad guys.
sweeping,
dust scattering,
heart full
from helping.

bending down
to wipe up wet footprints
fresh from the tub.
recalling
the day's fingerprint-
now erased.
ready for tomorrow's imprint.

the delight in his family
cupping mommy's face in his hands
just because.
declaring his love for kisses.
the excitement of church.
of his body
of his people
his family.

enjoyment of food
delighting in taste.
declaration of things
delicious to tastebuds.

a full heart
watching him stand in awe
of wind
and
rain.

enjoying
the young marvel at beauty.

gifts to his mother
flowers
pride in the choice
that he and daddy picked.

the same excitement
in bringing home rocks
anticipation
for the same response
the flowers delivered.

a heart
moved
from such gifts.

life as a mother to a son.
marveling
that
even the prince of glory
and creator of the universe
wondered at what He made.
the designer of laughter
experienced it for the first time.
author of our story,
maker of the heavens
delighted and redeemed
such things as these.
